What is Retinal Imaging?
Have you ever wondered what the inside of your eye looks like? Retinal imaging gives you a high-resolution image of your eye’s interior. When is Retinal Imaging Performed?
Retinal eye exams occur in addition to your regular eye exam. Depending on how often you visit the optometrist, you might not get an exam each time. For example, if you visit the optometrist annually to renew a glasses or contact lens prescription, it’s unlikely that you’ll have retinal imaging.

Being able to see the retina’s layers allows the eye doctor to measure how thick each one of them is. There are baseline retinal thickness layers that have been observed in “normal” eyes. Thickness measurements outside of the so-called normal range can be a cause for concern and a sign of retinal disease progression.
